Модульная система, разработанная первоначально комитетом ESONE и адаптированная впоследствии многими международными и национальными организациями стандартизации, в том числе IEC. Система определяется целым рядом стандартов, основными из которых являются: IEC 516 (интерфейс магистрали крейта), IEC 552 (интерфейс магистрали параллельной ветви), IEC 729 (интерфейс распределенного управления однокрейтовых систем). На базе средств системы САМАС и ЭВМ различных классов созданы многочисленные системы автоматизации научных и технических экспериментов, измерительно-вычислительные комплексы (ИВК) и персональные измерительные системы (ПИС).
